The Desk Drawer
A
free email-bases writer's exercise discussion group. The Desk Drawer is
an interactive email-based writing workshop, with membership ranging
from fifty to sixty writers. Its purpose is to encourage writers to
hone their skills in a noncompetitive, but accountable, environment,
where we can each learn what parts of our writing actually communicate
what we meant to say, what parts don’t, and thus grow as writers. Being
part of this writing exercise group is free, but it takes work!

Bio: I
grew up in Sacramento, California, with a love for animals (especially
horses, with or without wings), bugs, dragons, and the written word.
I quickly found out if I was reading, my parents would allow me to stay
"up" an extra half hour -- in bed with the light on. When my mom would
call "light's out!" I'd plead for one more page or one more chapter,
and often got permission.
My love for writing was fed by many encouraging teachers, including one
in high school who used one of my pieces as part of his curriculum the
following year. I blessed that man inwardly many times for not using it
in the *current* curriculum.
In real life I'm a private person, not that you can always tell from
how I am online. My online life is a very different place. Here, I've
been accused of being a saint, an angel, and a godsend. The people I
associate with at work would be astounded to hear any of these words
applied to me. They know, as do I, that I am none of these. I believe
the human spirit is capable of any of them at any given time, but very
few, if any, folk can maintain such reputations all the time.
I am a business analyst who runs an online writing group. I'm working
on my twenty-eighth year of marriage, and organizing my house. I have
days of joy and days of sorrow, and I like to end either with a cold
beer, a hot bath, and a good book
quote: "Blot out,
correct, insert, refine Enlarge, diminish, interline; Be mindful, when
invention fails, To scratch your head, and bite your
nails." Jonathan Swift
